Straight Laced Nightmare- Confrontational

Straight Laced Nightmare - Confrontational

Publisher: Rebel Records RRCD023

The last few years has become very quiet for the band White Wash, why? The main focus of Reno & Co., has been aimed straight at their side project Straight Laced Nightmare. That focus has now resulted in their newest cd!!

There have been compilations, promotional CDs, and now their new full length cd "Confrontational".
On this cd the listener can expect a hefty dose of old-school Hatecore fast guitar riffs a la Devils, sometimes a bit muffled, but always in your face. Lyrically, this time it is very personal, seeming as if it is Reno`s own statement to the world ... haha! Of course you can not categorize their style really, SLN remain faithful to their own style as with their previous album. The cd is eleven songs that extends to 31 minutes and has a 8 page booklet with all lyrics... and is ready to confront humanity!

Blackout- For The Blood Of Our Land

Welsh Oi!/ RAC band Blackout have self released their new cd titled For The Blood Of Our Land. Visit their my space here for more info

Blackout Interview

This weeks interview is with Blackout. It was originally conducted by Blood & Honour Magazine and was featured in Issue 35. *The interview below is a couple years old. Blackout has just released their second full length cd titled For The Blood Of Our Land.

Another impressive outfit from the land of the red dragon has emerged in the past year and stamped themselves upon our scene with some fine performances, 28 finally dragged the boys from the pits and held them down long enough to gain access to the new boys on the B&H block!

Some people are under the impression that Blackout are a new band but they have been around for many years. Could you give us some background information?

Blackout was formed in the early 90's by Andrew Stinko Lewis. Original members were Stinko, Miffy, Acky and Roger on vocals. Blackout gigged with such bands as Violent Storm, No Remorse, Squadron, Skullhead and also Celtic Dawn from Ireland. After the untimely deaths of Violent Storm, Stinko folded Blackout and along with Miffy, Billy and Clarkey went on to form Celtic Warrior.

Originally there were problems finding a line up, What's the current line up and was it hard to gain interest to get the band back up and running?

Blackout reformed again in the late 90's, members then were Stinko, Freeman on drums and Brad on guitar. We recorded two tracks for The Voice of Britain Volume 1 Cd, which were very well received. Unfortunately, due to Stinko's untimely passing Blackout were once again put on hold. Freeman and Brad made a promise to Stinko they would carry on the Band in his honour and one day record the unfinished songs that Stinko had written. It was pretty easy to gain interest in reforming the band due to the strong tracks on the Voice of Britain Volume 1 Cd and therefore Blackout resurfaced again in 2005 with its current line up, Brad on vocals, Freeman on drums, Eggy on lead guitar, Steve on bass guitar and Mart on rhythm guitar.

Many of the members have played in other groups in the movement including Celtic Warrior and Brutal Attack how does Blackout compare and what does it mean to you?

Despite band members having played in some well-known Blood & Honour Bands Blackout is quite unique in its approach to the current scene having quite a diverse range of material. Blackout is very dear to our hearts and in many cases personal to us due to our close friendship with Andrew Stinko Lewis, who we miss greatly, who has always and will always be our inspiration!

Blackout seem to have built a good following in a very short time and response has been very positive, what are your thoughts on this and did you expect it ?

Firsly of all we would like to say we appreciate the support we have had so far very much. We seem to have built up a strong following in a short space of time, which was completely unexpected. The Blood & Honour Scene in Britain is very strong and positive at the moment and we seem to have slotted in nicely.

Which gig has been the highlight for you so far?

Without a doubt, Stinko Memorial 2006. We felt we played a really tight set and the overwhelming support really spurred us on at such an emotional time.

When will the debut cd be out?

Blackout are entering the studio early December. We hope to release a Cd early 2007 on Rampage Records. We would like to thank Rampage for having faith in us and offering to put our Cd out.

There`s talk of a Blackout ballads set/cd is there any truth to this?

We do have some ballad material which we hope to release in the future but as yet there are no plans to do Blackout ballads live.

You've had lots of offers to play abroad but your drummers a girl can you see it happening?

Yes, we feel honoured to have been offered so many gigs in Europe. Unfortunately, we have had to turn them all down due to some band members not having passports but now due to the demand from European organisers, passports are now being applied for and hopefully we will play some parts of Europe next year so anyone who has asked us in the past... feel free to ask again in 2007. Cheers.

Final thoughts.....

Many thanks to Blood & Honour for asking us to do this interview. We know the scene will go from strength to strength and we hope to play a major part in its continued success.

Feher Torveny Interview

This weeks interview is with Maci from Hungary`s Fehér Törveny. This interview was conducted by a zine in Canada in 2010. You can visit Feher Torveny`s website here

Could you just tell us about the history of the band?

The beginning of the band was back in 1995, we recorded our first demo in 1996 with that line-up. This was a quiet simple RAC stuff; unfortunately things didn't go very well and we ended playing in 1998. 4 years later I started to recruit new musicians for the band, so we were active again since 2002. We were writing new songs and we were looking for a full lineup, capable to play live. In these times we took part on many split cd's, and recorded our first cd, called Ver Kotelez. The result was a mix in Oi/RAC/HC style. In 2005 we were finally beginning to work "normally". With the new lineup we made songs mostly in Hardcore/Thrash style, just like on our new album "Szemben a vilaggal". I'm really happy that we could finally release this stuff: our audience can now hear on cd what we have showed them live for years. We got mostly positive feedbacks, this is a great thing to inspire us to write more and more new songs :)

Even though hatecore is a new trend (at least in America), your band has been playing for quite a while, how did your sound evolve?

Your question surprises me, because the whole Hardcore music style started in the U.S. and these are my "musical roots" . I'm sure that these bands influences those skinhead bands who started to play hatecore music first, like White American Youth, Blue Eyed Devils, or Bound for Glory (on their first album). All of these bands were really inspiring for me, and all of them are American! My acknowledgement goes to them for the pioneering those new ways in music. BED is the best Hatecore band ever. Unfortunately I've only seen them live twice, but both times were great! Their music, their whole lifestyle, with one word their whole message is determinative for me; it's like an example for me. These obvious effects inspired me, that at the resumption I didn't simply want skinhead musicians, but those NS activists, who also like my musical taste, and I started the band again in 2002 in this way. It wasn't easy to find new companions, but it was the only way to continue. I think the band has improved so much during the years, and we will continue marching in the future in this way!

Why did you choose hatecore? Do you think it is a better propaganda tool?

I'm listening to many Oi, RAC bands since I was young, but ever since I first heard the Hardcore bands, it was no doubt that I want to do this with full heart! The above mentioned bands showed me the way how to mix political message with music, it's clear for me, that HC is my way and I'm directing my band into this way!

Your music is in Hungarian, so for us, Francophones and Anglophones, quite difficult to understand. What do you usually discuss in your lyrics?

We wrote lyrics from several things in the past. The songs mostly are personal experiences, reactions for the problems we're facing every day. We have some songs with "typical NS stance", but we try to put something new into the boring world of the Hungarian RAC-lyrics, haha.

You´ve been playing with many different bands over the year, which gig (where and with whom) was your favorite? And with whom would you like to play?

It seems that other people also like the music we make. We had many great gigs with many great bands! The best concerts are mostly in Hungary, where the first lines of the audience are attacking the stage, and we sing our songs with the guys together! This is an awesome feeling, what I can't put into words! Throughout the years our friends from Zittau (Germany) made many concerts for us, or I can mention here the HFB Crew from Italy, these were the best concerts in foreign countries! I'd like to thank you here all of the guys! There are several bands, with the ones we'd like to play, but I think it would be boring to tell here the whole list....

Hatecore and RAC usually have a different audience, could you describe the relationship between the hatecore and RAC scenes in Hungary?

Unfortunately, in my country a hatecore scene doesn't exist. In Hungary you can find a patriotic music scene, there's a scene of nationalist rock bands, and a NS scene. The RAC bands are from the last two, but here are no sharp borders, the bands don't hold aloof from each other! Personally, I'd prefer a hungarian HateCore scene, I think it would be great!

Nowadays, kids tend to download songs from the internet rather than buy the CD, is that a positive or a negative trend for our movement?

I think this is a very bad tendency. There's only one good thing with downloads, that the guys can come to know more new bands that they didn't know before. They probably don't come like me before, because I bought cd's by only looking at their cover.....Except of these, the downloading (and the downloaders) are killing the bands, and then they don't support them with buying the original cd's.

On a political level, could you describe the situation in Hungary?

Really bad! After many decades of communism, the leaders wear new masks that they call democracy, but everything stayed like in the old times... I could say the situation is getting worse every day: they tell the people to believe in their freedom, brainwash them with silly games. During these happenings many more bad things happen. I hope more and more people will awake from their never ending dreams!

What are your links with the Hungarian Guard?

We don't have any contacts with them. I'm picking up the news from the media about them, they are also a part of the national resistance in Hungary.

Are you guys supporting any organization?

Our band belongs to a brotherhood; our crew exists since 1997, when we (me and several friends of mine) decided to found our brotherhood, the BHS. We don't have a lot of members, but we believe, that quality is more important, than quantity. We organized a lot of gigs, tours, etc. during the years. We've a recording label, called "BHS Service". We help at several 'zines, we even had our own propaganda zine several years ago. We have good contacts in Hungary & worldwide. We released a sampler CD, called "BHS Crew" which was to honouring the 10 year anniversary of BHS; on the CD there were 10 bands, all of them had members in the BHS Crew. In Hungary there are 2 groups, with them we have a closer relationship: the GYHC and the Fehér Kör.

Anything else to add?

Thank you for your interest! We're making new songs, and if everything goes okay, we will come out with a brand new cd this year, and we can show these songs to you! Greetings for the readers & fans from Hungary! Maci & Fehér Törvény

There will also be an "intro" and "outro" for the album with an "atmospheric" feel about it something a bit different for the band, but it won't be taking anything away from the hard aggressive sound of the album. Major Disappointment Interview

Below is an interview with Major Disappointment originally posted on the Lone Rider Web Zine here. Major Disappointment is another band that is not real wll known in our music scene yet but they are another not to be overlooked. They play some good anti pc oldschool hardcore/ punk. They have a full length cd out now as well as a newly released dvd titled Bootleg This Dvd produced by TFB Productions. It is available now through Label 56

Major Disappointment

answers by Hans Bondo

Can you introduce your band?

In Major Disappointment we have Rod on guitar, Mikey Disappointment on bass, J.D. on drums and myself Hans Bondo on guitar and vocals.

Can you say something about your bands history?

MD actually started a couple years ago with some song I was playing around with and was going to record. I had a couple friends who wanted to help out with it and here we are a couple years and several line up changes later working on our second cd, releasing a dvd and playing shows.

Have somebody from your band experiences with playing in some other band?

I think everyone in the group has played in bands before. J.D. joined us a week ago when our old drummer left to go be a rock star so we don't know much about him. I have been playing in bands since the late 90s but we are talking underground D.I.Y. stuff. No top 40 hits or anything.

What bands influence you?

As far as influences I would say Slapshot is on the list. They just don't give a fuck. They say what they want. I like that. Combat 84 is another. Cock Sparrer, Condemned 84 and even some of the old punk stuff like Special Duties and Chaos Uk

How many concerts and with which bands did you play? What was your best and worst gig?

I think I've played more shows with MD that all the other band I've been in put together . I wouldn't say it was one our best but one of my favorite shows was at a bar here in Michigan that books punk and metal bands. After about 3 songs you could hear a pin drop in that place. Apparently we were a little to real for that area. We played our full set and didn't even make enough money to cover our gas hahaha skinhead rock & roll. The worst would have to be Chicago. It was an outdoor show, hot as fuck and not our best performance. People told me it was a good show but anyone who was there knows the truth

Can you describe the scene in your area?

The scene in my town is pretty good. But over all the region doesn't have much to offer from what I have seen. Most the bands try to play the shit music they hear on the radio. Not many people go to shows anymore and with the shit that`s out there I can't say I blame them

Do you have a favorite scene?

I like to play on the east coast. It has a raw feel to it. I don't know that I would call it a scene because there are probably 50 scenes on the east coast and they all hate each other. Only been overseas one time but from what I've seen the scenes around Europe are a lot better than what we have in the states

Can you say something about a) Patriot b) Bonecrusher c) Brassic ?

Don't know any members of Patriot, Bonecrusher, or Brassic but I'm familiar with their music. Good stuff. I do like the older Patriot material. Seemed more sincere to me

Do you have some current and old time TOP 10?

Wow top 10. That's not as easy as it should be. I listen to Oi!, RAC, old school punk, classic country and black metal. Could do a top 10 for all but in general Combat 84, Condemned 84, Slapshot, Cock Sparrer, Oxymoron, The Diehards, Dwight Yoakam, Skrewdriver, Bobby Bare, Johnny Cash, Dissection, Samael and a bunch of underground black metal that i can't tell what their name is.

Do you have some favourite films and books?

Favorite films I would say Dog Soldiers, the first Rambo, The Day of The Jackal, Tommy Boy, Smokey and the Bandit and the Bourne Identity movies. Matt Damon is a cunt but I like those Bourne movies. Clint Eastwood movies are all pretty good. As for books I mainly read military history

Do you have some hobbies beside music?

Other than music I'm into firearms training, weight lifting and motorcycles

Some future plans?

Our future plans are to continue to put out the very finest in abrasive Oi!. We have shows lined up for April and may and are recording our next cd. Major Disappointment "Bootleg This DVD" will be out soon and hope to have it available overseas in the next couple months

Last comments?

I would to thank Lone Rider Zine. Stay tuned because we are just getting started. Let me know if that`s good. If it sucks we can try again haha. No but for real, cheers
