Rick's Pick: Titania & Antisystem

This week's pick is a CD that until now, I had never really gave a chance. After only one listen, I set it aside, and until this past week did not listen to it again. The CD that I disregarded is the split CD from Titania and Antisystem, "We Are Here To Create Our Own Fate."

I have to say I cannot comment on Antisystem`s contributions yet, because honestly I have been playing the Titania songs over and again. Titania contribute 8 songs that are done in several different music styles. I have to say I am more partial to the heavier songs on this CD, but they definitely are a talented band; no matter what style they are playing.

Awesome split cd featuring Sweden's Titania and Russia's Antisystem. While both bands carry their weight Titania really steals the show with their musical craftsmanship and different/ in your face way of discussing the problems that plague today's society. Highly recommended for fans of intelligent lyrics and well played melodic hardcore for Nationalists. ~Steve Skam

Ipvox: Dissident 2.0
(2007 Alternative-S)

This is a pretty good release that took me by surprise, seeing it's typically not a genre that I listen to, at all. I'd classify this as a hybrid mix of industrial, techno, and rock & roll with heavily NS influenced vocals in French. If you're in the market to try something different, this will probably be it. ~Steve Skam

White Devils: Manifesto Of Resistance
(2008 Strong Survive records)

I highly empathize the word heavy to describe this Polish metalcore bands latest release. Lots of mosh-part breakdowns and neckbreaking singalong choruses sung in both Polish and English. This CD is sure to please fans of Konkwista 88, SOL, Honor, and the likes. ~Steve Skam

Lundsson, Xenophobe, Paranoid

On Friday Lundsson, the creative artist behind Angriff, Titania, Varg, and numerous other projects, announced the that after almost ten years he is discontinuing work in all band projects. Lundsson states that he will continue to pursue music personally, but has no interest in managing any of the previous mentioned projects.

As a personal fan of much of Lundsson's work, I do hope that he continues to create art and provide meaningful music for his fan base; irregardless of band title.

New Zealand's first nationalist metal / rock band, Xenophobe, will be releasing their first full length album on Blood Sacrifice productions.

The album has original guitarist Rob (who is now no longer in the band) playing rhythm and some lead guitar tracks on some songs.. There are also 4 tracks on the album, which will feature lead breaks from thrash metal guitarist, "The Iceman" from the USA. the band hopes to have the album released in June / July 2009.

A new act from Germany, Paranoid, is currently working with OPOS records and has some sample material available HERE. There is currently no information available as to sharing members from other bands or regarding release dates.

Deaths Head, Varg, Profane

Currently, Deaths Head compilation cd "Decompilation" is out now. 14 tracks of hard to find compilation songs and live stuff with a 12 page booklet of photos and band commentary.

Aussie death metal outfit Deaths Head enters the studio next week to begin recording of the Norse myth themed concept album "Baldr". A retelling of the legendary tale of the murder of the god of light and the quest to bring him back from Hel. This will be the second concept album in a row for Deaths Head and a long awaited project for singer Jesse.

Out of Sweden is a new project of Angriff and Titania member Lundsson titled Varg. This release, "Visioner for Miljoner (Visions for Millions)," is limited to 100 CDR copies, at almost 30 minutes of material. Samples of the band are available at Frihetsrock productions HERE.

The music itself is somewhat ambiguous as it has obvious influences from different genres, as well as differing vocal ranges. However, at no point does this melodic project lack interest for the listener.

I happen to be a fan of work produced by these talented group of muscians. With the Varg samples you will notice vocals at points similar to another side project One Day Access. Everything Lundsson creates has excellent production and is of the best quality.

New CD by Profane, titled "Heretique Arya."

Fraction, Kolovrat, Hassgesang

I must admit most French bands never did much for me. As I had many friends through the years who would bombard me with different French bands, none of which sparked much interest. From time to time I would enjoy what I heard, but I was not sold. Within the recent years I was given a copy of Fraction's "Europa." I instantly took to the style, energy and passion the band played with, I had heard the band before, however, as their previously title Fraction Hexagone. Something was different since I had heard them before-they had changed style.

For over a decade the band Fraction has been performing their ever-evolving brand of music. Perhaps the reason I enjoy this band so much is their williness to adapt, to stay current, and after reading this translated interview from a Russian 'zine I now understand why I admire their direction. I have since collected the majority of this band's works and continue to be impressed. Perhaps, I may go back and check out some of those early 90's French RAC bands I passed up years ago, and find a diamond in the rough.

"Unity In Action," a split between long time Russian band Kolovrat and German band Hassgesang, is now available on PC records. Coming in at about 45 minutes the CD features songs by both bands in English and of course in both their native tongues.

Kolovrat has released two full lengths albums since their last split with the Portuguese band Guarda De Ferro, "European Freedom Express," in 2006 on Whitenoise records, and continues to be a standard in the Russian scene.

The keyboardist / backing vocalist Dmitry of Kolovrat is involved in anoter project Antisystem. Antisystem was featured on a 2007 split with Sweden's Titania titled "We Are Here To Create Our Own Fate," released by Strong Survive records. The split, although rather underrated, is a person favorite of mine and I anticipate hearing more from both bands.
