Rick's Pick: Fight Tonight

This week's pick goes to German hardcore band Fight Tonight. They are a newer band and their releases are currently limited to an EP and a demo CD, honestly all I have heard so far has been great. As mentioned they are rooted in hardcore, but remind me somewhat of If We Die Tomorrow, as they also incorporate punk and a bit of grind. I definitely look forward to their full length. IN REVIEW: If We Die Tomorrow, Ultra Sur

If We Die Tomorrow: (self titled)
(2009 OPOS records)

The debut release by this band is quite impressive. With my first listen I quickly noticed that the band draws influences from many different styles and plays like a sort of a who's who of the scene. These guys play rather intense metalcore with bouts of old school hardcore laced through. The very thing that I liked upon first listen, discouraged me later once I played it several times through. The band does lack a stand out performance to call their niche. Musically they are tight and the vocals show quality, however, the drums can get a bit choppy at points.

Regardless of all of this, it is a very solid release for a debut and I truly look forward to more in the future from this band. This limited pressing of 666 copies comes with a pull out poster and a sticker, yet regretfully comes in a sleeve instead of a typical jewel case. ~Doug Sacred

Ultra sur: Nacido para ser skin

There is a lot of hype around this release and let me tell you here and now that none of it is unwarranted. They caught my attention from the 4 count on the hi hat of song 1 to the last note on song 11. I only understand English and French yet I found myself trying to sing along after the first listen anyhow. These guys deliver a mainly medium to fast paced straight forward old style RAC/Oi sound which is right up my alley. My only regret is not knowing about this band earlier as I was told they have been around for quite sometime. So if you like catchy music and great singalongs (I'm sure if you understand the lyrics they'll be that much better) this is the must buy of the summer. ~Shaun

Hate For Breakfast, If We Die Tomorrow, Frontkraft and Under the Black Sun

Coming soon on EDA propaganda & Black Shirts records is the newest and final release by Italy's hardcore giants Hate For Breakfast, titled "Squadrismo Hardcore." The mini CD is scheduled to be released very soon and preorders are available now through Black Shirts now.

If We Die Tomorrow's anticipated debut is out now on OPOS records. The CD, limited to 666 copies, features 15 songs and is over 30 minutes in lenth of a blend of hardcore, metal, punk and grind. The release also features a poster and stickers with the production.

Also out now on Rebel records is the re-release of Frontalkraft's 1995 demo almost 15 years after being recorded. The CD was originally limited to only 150 copies. The new CD features the 12 original demo tracks and 3 previously unreleased songs by the band, which total over an hour of music by this historic band.

Out now on FS records is Under the Black Sun's release "Hate Rock." UTBS plays a great and very professional heavier rock with a wide range of vocals. The CD features 10 tracks and comes in at about 40 minutes. As we stated before we look forward to picking up the CD as the samples seemed quite interesting.

Mortuary, Suppressed Memories, If We Die Tomorrow

As we have stated before the German scene is the forerunner of the hardcore scene, and today we would like to share 3 new bands to keep an eye out for.

First up is death-core band Mortuary. These guys feature blasting drums and howling guitars but the vocals seem to lay some where outside the typical death metal growl. While it is nothing original or earth shattering it is something I will keep my eye on as there IS talent there. Check Mortuary out HERE.

Suppressed Memories is next up. The sole sample gave me wanting more. The music, fast paced hardcore, flirts with elements from punk to metal. I really enjoy the vocals sound as he goes from a yelp to a very natural sound.

Lastly is If We Die Tomorrow. IWDT is very talented hardcore. Mid-paced tempo, full of two step blasts and some great drop off breakdowns, the transitions are great! The vocals have some melodic fills near the chorus on one of the samples but the majority seem to be belted out powerfully.

Fortunately it does not look we will have to wait too long to get to check these guys out, as OPOS records has announced the debut release by them. I am sure I speak for everyone her at Uprise Direct when I say we look forward to getting our hands on it.
